Class Of 2023

I’m from Bergen County, New Jersey and my family is Peruvian! In my Junior year, I joined the Kunisaki Lab in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine. The lab studies congenital abnormalities that can be treated by surgery and I was primarily involved in animal and cellular studies of spina bifida.

My favorite Biophysics class was Advanced Seminar of Macromolecular Binding with Dr. Fleming! I loved the small classroom environment and learning Dr. Fleming’s tips for writing and oral presentations. My favorite biophysics moments were the times I got to bond with my classmates and professors outside of class. For me, it’s a tie between my 21st birthday party where some of my Biophysics friends came over and made the day extra special, as well as the Macromolecular Binding class getting invited to the Fleming Lab’s holiday party!

After graduation, I will be moving back to New Jersey while I apply to medical school. During my gap year, I will be working as an office manager at a private practice for endocrinology in my hometown area. I also hope to complete a 200-hour yoga instructor certification program during my time off from school! As of now, I don’t know what medical specialty I want to pursue, but I know that the Biophysics department prepared me well for wherever I end up.

Thank you, Biophysics and Hopkins for some of the most challenging, yet most rewarding and memorable years of my life : )
