Wes Glime

Class Of 2023

I was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin where I grew up loving fishing, sports, and the Green Bay Packers. As a Biophysics major at Hopkins, I also played quarterback for the football team. Additionally, I worked in Professor Bowman’s research lab, where we investigated the chromatin remodeler Chd1 and the mechanism by which it reorganizes nucleosomes. I am forever thankful for this wonderful opportunity that was provided to me by Ilana Nodelman and Professor Bowman, and I had an incredible experience working with them and the other amazing members of the lab.

My favorite biophysics class was probably Single Molecule and Cell Biophysics with Dr. Myong and Dr. Ha because the material was very interesting, and It taught me a lot about reading and interpreting scientific papers. I also need to give an honorable mention to Biochem I with Dr. Lecomte where I got to run around the classroom trying to unscrew nuts and bolts in order to demonstrate Michaelis-Menten kinetics and inhibition.

Starting this July, I will be attending the Medical College of Wisconsin where I will pursue an MD/MS dual degree to be completed in four years. Following medical school, I hope to complete residency, though I am unsure of exactly what specialty I will pursue.
