Dr. Kossiakoff earned his PhD in 1938 from Johns Hopkins University's department of chemistry. Nine years later, he returned to Hopkins to work for the Applied Physics Laboratory, remaining there for nearly 60 years. Ultimately, he became the director - from 1969 until 1980 - and then stayed on as the laboratory's chief scientist until meeting wtih and untimely death at the age of 91. He lead research in radar, air defense systems, communications, submarines, space science, and spacecraft. |
