The T. C. Jenkins Department of Biophysics actively participates in two graduate training programs, the Program in Molecular and Computational Biophysics (PMCB), and the Program in Cell, Molecular, Developmental Biology, and Biophysics (CMDB). Both programs offer a Ph.D. in biophysics-related research.

The Program in Molecular and Computational Biophysics (PMCB) trains students in quantitative molecular biophysics, with both experimental and computational emphasis. The program gives students a strong background in physical chemical principles and methods, in theory and methods of macromolecular structure determination, and structure-based computational analysis. The training faculty reside in the T. C. Jenkins Department of Biophysics, other departments within the Schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering, and in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health in east Baltimore. The coursework in PMCB closely reflects the scope described above, focusing primarily on quantitative physical chemistry of biological systems, structure determination and analysis of macromolecules, and computational analysis of biomolecular systems.

The Program in Cell, Molecular, Developmental Biology, and Biophysics (CMDB) gives students a strong background in modern biology, and physical biochemistry. Through rigorous training in cell and molecular biology, for example, students are prepared to study complex biological phenomena using quantitative, physical methods. The training faculty reside in the T. C. Jenkins Department of Biophysics, the Biology Department, and the Carnegie Institute of Embryology, all located on the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus. Students take graduate courses in Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology, and in Biophysics.

Students are encouraged to select a program that best suits their interests and backgrounds. Students may apply through the respective program websites, or by selecting the respective training program from the Johns Hopkins University on-line application system. Promising applicants will be invited to a visiting weekend for the program to which they have applied (PMBC or CMDB), to meet with faculty and students, see the campus and facilities, and have a look around Baltimore.
