Patrick Fleming has been Senior Lecturer in the Biophysics department since 2005. Fleming is interested in the structure and function of the outer membrane in diderm (gram-negative) bacteria. He primarily uses molecular simulations to probe the dynamics and interactions of membrane glycolipids, phospholipids and proteins in model systems of the bacterial outer membrane.
In all his undergraduate courses Fleming has introduced the use of computer laboratories as active learning sessions that complement each lecture.
We use molecular dynamics simulations to elucidate the functional dynamics and structures of proteins involved in the sorting and insertion of outer membrane proteins in Gram negative bacteria.
